So you’ve finally jumped into the exciting yet daunting world of Home Based Business ownership! Your feet are wet, so to speak, and you are now just realizing what it means to be a home based business owner.
You are quickly realizing that in a home business, nothing comes easy. The business opportunity might have been sold to you as something that is effortless, that will take no time, and that will make you millions without even trying.
However, whether or not you started your business with these expectations or not, you have quickly realized that this is simply not the case. Being successful in a home based business, just like in any other business enterprise, takes significant effort.
It is important to quickly realize in any home business pursuit that what you do early on will set the stage for the success of your company.
One of the most important things you must do is to create momentum within your company. Most people are familiar with the concept of momentum.
Those who ever studied physics can no doubt provide a detailed scientific explanation.
Momentum is a very true and almost tangible business force. Ask any successful business leader about momentum in business, and you will get several different explanations for what it is, what causes it, and what is needed to develop it.
Business momentum is created by the sheer will and force of the company’s leader. Companies, including home businesses, which have great momentum, got there through their leader.
Picture a massive Navy battleship. It takes a lot of energy (i.e. effort) to move a battleship. Huge engines with thousands of horsepower are required to gradually build the huge ships up to their cruising speed. Massive energy (i.e. effort) is required to accomplish this.
But once the ship is at cruising speed, virtually nothing can stop its momentum. The captain could cut the engines, and the ship would coast for many miles before coming to rest.
Your home based business (or any business) can develop this kind of momentum. But just like the battleship, it will take a great deal of effort to build the momentum, but once it is developed, nothing can stand in your way.
To create momentum in your home based business, you as the leader MUST do several things:
1. You MUST take immediate and decisive action. Don’t confuse busyness with action. Busyness is shuffling papers or making plans or lists. Action is actually doing something constructive with those plans and lists, accomplishing something worthwhile. Take the time necessary to create strong business strategies, and to learn effective Internet Marketing Strategies
2. You MUST build an environment of enthusiasm and excitement around your home business. And to do this, you MUST actually FEEL and convey that excitement and enthusiasm to those around you. Any team members that are involved in your home based business will sense your excitement, and will feed off of it.
Your customers will sense your enthusiasm and your passion about the product or service you provide, and will be influenced by it.
Conversely, if you do not carry an aura of excitement around yourself, your team members and/or customers will sense that as well, and it will influence them in the other direction. You as the leader MUST be the one to create and maintain the excitement and enthusiasm about your home based business.
3. You MUST be consistent in your efforts. The best advice I ever received about home based business was this: If you treat if like a business, it will pay you like a business. But if you treat it like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby. (Which is to say, not at all, since a hobby is an expense not a profit center.)
It is not enough to work on something a few times a week, maybe talk to a few people every now and then, when you have time. You MUST be taking action daily in your business, or you will never built the durable momentum necessary to take your home based business to the next level.
There are many more ways to build momentum in your home business, or any other business. The keys are above. 95% of all home based businesses FAIL within the first year. By building durable momentum in your home business, you can avoid becoming just another statistic.
